Gomez, who is set to kick off her world tour in May, was due to perform in Guangzhou and Shanghai on August 6 and 8 as part of her Revival tour. These concerts have now been removed from her official website.

In 2014, Gomez had shared a photo of herself meeting with Dalai Lama. This is suspected to be why the concerts have been cancelled. The photo cannot be found on Gomez 's social media pages anymore.

Maroon 5 and Bon Jovi have previously been banned from performing in the country for publicly interacting with the Buddhist leader.

Neither Selena Gomez nor the Chinese government have confirmed whether this is true.
