Grey's Anatomy's creator Shonda Rhimes admitted that the loss of Dr Derek Shepherd also known as McDreamy was very painful as he was and will always be an incredibly important character for everyone.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Magazine, the American screenwriter said that she never imagined saying goodbye to the veteran medical drama's leading man which was played by Patrick Dempsey in a way that it shaped Shepherd becoming an example of happiness, sadness, romance, pain and specially for young women.
The 45-year-old executive producer of the medical drama added that the entire cast of the series will be entering into uncharted territory as they will head into a new chapter of their lives. Dempsey also explained that everything happened very quickly without much discussion.
