Ghanaian actress who was sent to 3-month jail term for posting nude photo with 7-year-old son, gets bail

In the latest piece of news, a Ghanaian actress, Rosemond Brown, who was granted a 3-month jail term for posting a nude photo of herself beside her near-naked son on social media, has finally been granted bail by a court in the capital Accra. 

Last June, the actress, popularly called Akuapem Poloo, posted a provocative picture of herself squatting down while holding hands with her confused-looking son as a bizarre celebration of his seventh birthday. In the picture, while Poloo's hair covered her assets and her son was seen wearing underwear, the photo sparked outrage in Ghana.

Soon after receiving massive backlash, Poloo deleted the picture and offered an apology, the BBC noted

The actress was found guilty on Friday of 'publishing obscene materials, domestic violence and undermining the privacy and integrity of another person'.

She was granted 90 days ail term.

“Did she ask for the permission of the child before posting the said picture? Did she respect the child’s right? No, she did not,” judge Christiana Cann said, according to the agency Newsflash.

"A harsh sentence will serve as a deterrent," the judge told the court.

Poloo is an avid social media user and regularly shares photos with her son, as well as rapper Cardi B, whom she met once in 2019.

As the nude photo of Poloo went viral on the web and elicited mixed reactions as did the verdict of jail term for the actress, the "WAP" star was one of many to question the harsh punishment meted out to Poloo. 

Cardi B put out a tweet that read, "I seen a lot of Americans do photoshoots like that. Even tho is not my style I don’t think she was going for sexual more going the natural idea.I think jail is a bit harsh. Maybe social media probation or community service."
