Bloodbaths are not unusual on this show. Despite being habituated to watching characters die unexpectedly, the deaths of Prince Doran, Prince Trystane and Areo Hotah in Dorne still managed to shock fans.

On its Making of Game of Thrones blog, HBO made some key revelations about those scene in which Ellaria stabs Doran

It released photos of two props used in the scene. One is a letter by Jaime Lannister informing Doran of Myrcella's death.

“The Princess Myrcella died by poison on our return journey. I suspect Ellaria, not you, but my sister will demand war. I doubt Ellaria’s head will appease her but it is a start, a long with your nieces. Your son cannot stay in King’s Landing. I am sending him back on the same ship.”

The other is the intricate bracelet Ellaria wears to conceal her dagger.

Props (pun intended) to the show's art department for its keen attention to detail in the letter and the beautifully crafted dagger.
