First it was the trailers and now it is the song that he has written and composed to hunt for a new voice... the man surely knows how to grab attention — well deserved of course! Poornachandra Tejaswi may be new to the industry but his very first tryst with Kannada films seems to be good enough to fetch him a privileged position in the industry.

Poornachandra’s talent was spotted by director Pawan Kumar while he was scouting for an aspiring music director to score music for his second and crowd funded project, Lucia. “He, on a social networking site, asked interested musicians to send him samples of their works and I like hundreds of others did so. Pawan immediately responded and even before I realised I was a part of Team Lucia,” recalls Poornachandra. And if you watch his song that has been launched on the internet, you will know why Pawan considered him instantly. Apart from  conceptualising the song, Poornachandra has also written the lyrics for it. In fact he has penned the lyrics of three of the five songs that have been composed for Lucia. “Speaking of the song that has gone viral on the net, well, we released it with the intention of finding a singer who can render that song. The track voice is mine and we are looking for someone who can do justice to the number. It was uploaded five days ago and we have registered over 43,000 hits so far. Some 300 people have expressed their desire to audition already,” he says. One will be required to sing the song which goes like tinbed kammi tinbed kammi....  in pakka Mandya Kannada. “The concept of the song is very interesting. It shows how this SSLC failed lad from a village in Mandya is being coaxed by his foreign girl friend to learn English. She leaves him with a group of her firang friends to help him familiarise himself with the language. But he instead of learning their language, challenges them to speak his own. It’s a fun song,” he says. The video of the song shows actors, technicians and family members of team Lucia trying to sing but give up eventually. It ends with them now urging others to come give a shot at crooning. And given that the track voice is his, didn’t Poornachandra feel tempted to sing the song himself? “No, I know my limitations so I rather stay away from doing that. In fact I have a rock band called Stone Age and even there I have limited my contributions to lyrics writing and the music,” he says modestly.

Writing songs seems to be his other strong point for he has already won admiration from directors like Yograj Bhat and Suri for the same. “Yes, they have been very encouraging and always spoken about both my lyrics and compositions. In fact thanks to them I have even bagged another project,” he says. Any offers from Bhatru himself? “I feel music director Harikrishna’s and Bhatru’s combination works the best. So, I as of now, just wish to like everyone else, enjoy the music that the duo come out with,” he says with a smile.
