Swades: We, The People 2004This Ashutosh Gowarikar film saw Shah Rukh Khan ditch his Rahul-image and embrace the character Mohan Bhargava instead. As an NRI scientist, SRK showed his true worth as an actor. The film was universally acclaimed and garners huge fan following.Lagaan  2001Once again an Ashutosh Gowarikar film, this one had him team with Aamir. The period film reportedly did a business of close to Rs 58 crore and was made on a budget of Rs 25 crore. With a cricket-based theme, the film hit home with audience across the country. Munnabhai series 2003-6Rajkumar Hirani’s Munnabhai MBBS (2003) made with a budget of Rs10 crore garnered over Rs 30 crore and Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006) did over Rs 71 crore business. They are also among one of Sanjay Dutt’s most loved films till date.Chak De India  2007The Shimit Amin film starring SRK is easily one of the actor’s best films till date. Devoid of glam and glitz, the Khan excelled as a hockey coach who leads India’s girl hockey team to victory. The film made Rs68 crore.The Dirty Picture 2011This Milan Luthria film produced by Ekta Kapoor saw Vidya Balan throw a towel to every rule there was in the Bolly heroine’s book. The film was a game changer and full on entertainment, entertainment, entertainment!Kahaani  2012The Sujoy Ghosh thriller starring Vidya Balan went on to become a sleeper hit and even bagged three National Awards. One of Vidya’s best performances, it certainly deserved a Rs 100 crore ka thappa.Bose: The Forgotten Hero 2004The Shyam Benegal biopic on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose starring Sachin Khedekar was made on a budget of Rs 30 crore and went on to garner Rs 61 crore at the box-office. But we believe it deserved much more.Rang De Basanti 2006The Rakeysh OmPrakash Mehra film made on a decent budget of Rs 26 crore went on to rake in Rs 94 crore. Starring Aamir Khan, Kunal Kapoor, R Madahavan, Siddharth, Soha Ali Khan, Alice Patten, Sharman Joshi and Atul Kulkarni, the film drew parallels between the freedom fighters, mainly the youth like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad... in a pre-independent India with the present day youth and their fight against corruption.
