It’s five times the celebration for popular Sandalwood film-maker Nagathihalli Chandrashekar today. While the nation celebrates Independence Day, the director has five reasons to rejoice today.

Apart from today being his birthday, he is also celebrating his 25th marriage anniversary, his Abhivyakti Samskrutika Vedike turns 26, he launches a study centre called Lyrics and is also going to embark on a big Sandalwood project.

“Every year, I celebrate my birthday in my hometown Nagathihalli, but this year I had many reasons to celebrate it in Bangalore,” says Chandrashekar. He says, “Since it is the 25th year of my marriage and my wife and I are launching a study centre called Lyrics, I had to alter the annual ritual to celebrate my birthday in Bangalore.”

The study centre launch will also coincide with the 26th anniversary of the film-maker’s Abhivyakti Samskrutika Vedike.

“Every year, we conduct a screenplay writing workshop to encourage new talent. This year, we held it in Bangalore. We had the famous Malayalam film-maker Lenin Rajendran address the students, who also watched his film Makaramanju,” says Chandrashekar.

There will be day long celebrations as the film-maker launches Lyrics, a study centre in Banashankari. “We will honour six eminent residents from South Bangalore — Master Hirannaiah, HS Doraiswamy, Shivamoga Subbana, HS Venkatesh Murthy, CR Simha and Ravindranath Guru,” says Chandrashekar.

There will be a poetry recital programme which will be chaired by Dr Agrahara Krishnamurthy. “Noted literati like GS Shivarudrappa, Chandrashekar Kambar and Manu Baligar will be present. I will be releasing two books of mine, one novel and the other a collection of my columns. There will be a Hindustani classical concert by Dr Muddu Mohan,” says Chandrashekar.

And we’ve also learnt from that the film-maker is planning to launch a film shortly, which is said to be a romantic comedy with the backdrop of the media. Rockline Venkatesh, who is supposed to be producing this film, he confirmed, “We’re currently in the process of finalising the star cast.” Quite an eventful birthday for Chandrashekar, this is, eh?
