To celebrate the occasion of Selvaraghavan's birthday yesterday, GK Cinemas, a popular two-screen theatre in Chennai, screened the director's critically acclaimed 2010 action-adventure fantasy drama Aayirathil Oruvan. Although the film didn't win the favour of the audiences back then, it was later appreciated by everyone and is still considered ahead of its time.

Some of the die-hard fans of Selvaraghavan requested the filmmaker to come up with a sequel to the film. Karthi, Reema Sen, and Andrea Jeremiah played the lead roles in the film, which revolved around the enmity between the Chola and Pandya dynasties. Meanwhile, Vettri Theaters, another popular Chennai theatre, screened Selvaraghavan's cult classic Pudhupettai which featured Dhanush, Sonia Aggarwal and Sneha in the lead roles.

While Karthi recently said that it's extremely difficult to assemble the entire team of Aayirathil Oruvan again for a sequel since the first part didn't work at the box-office and let everyone down, Dhanush expressed hope recently that Pudhupettai 2 would definitely happen someday when Selvan prepares the full script.

Selvaraghavan is currently waiting for the release of political drama NGK, which stars Suriya, Rakul Preet and Sai Pallavi as leads. Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored the music for the film, and the album is expected to be launched very soon by the team. The makers are planning to release the film in April.
