This is not it. James Earl Jones is also set to reprise his role as Mufasa which he voiced in the 1994 animated movie.

Favreau announced the news on his Twitter account.

The Lion King is the new addition to the ever-expanding list of Disney's live action remakes which include Cinderella, Maleficent, upcoming Beauty and the Beast and Favreau's successful venture of 2016, The Jungle Book.

The Lion King is not entirely live action but it will look like one. Building on the technology developed for The Jungle Book, the jungle, the animals, the setting of The Lion King will come to life.

In 1994, The Lion King won Academy Awards for the original song, 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' sung by Elton John and Tim Rice and an original score by Hans Zimmer plus two Grammy Awards, with the soundtrack selling over 14 million copies.

Set in the Pride Lands of Africa and a kingdom of lions, The Lion King stage production also won six Tony Awards in 1997 and still remains one of Broadway's biggest hits.
