For years now, news of Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt making her debut into Telugu cinema has been doing the rounds. She has been approached for several films in the past but it’s only now that things fell into place. The actress is finally all set to be seen in her first Telugu film ever with SS Rajamouli’s RRR.
In the film’s official press conference held on Thursday, not only did the director make an official announcement of her signing the film but also revealed how it happened. “I was travelling somewhere and happened to meet her at the airport. It was there that I first told her about my interest to cast her in the film. She was very keen to be a part of the film as well. And then, things eventually fell into place,” he shared.
Alia will be playing a character called Seeta, and has been paired opposite Ram Charan. Talking about her character, Rajamouli revealed, “She plays an extremely strong character that will do immense justice to her acting prowess. I am so excited to be working with a talent like her.”
An official announcement of the same was made on the film’s Twitter handle where they posted, “Welcome aboard, @aliaa08! We are glad to have you play the female lead in our film. Happy Birthday in advance and hope you will have a wonderful journey with us..:) #RRRPressMeet #RRR @ssrajamouli @tarak9999 #RamCharan @dvvmovies @RRRMovie (sic).”
The visibly excited actress responded to the same and confirmed her presence in the film and tweeted, “Today I feel truly truly grateful.. Cannot wait to begin this beautiful journey with this stellar cast and massive team.. thank you @ssrajamouli sir for giving me this opportunity to be directed by you.. #RRRPressMeet (sic).”
Meanwhile, Alia is gearing up for the release of her next Bollywood film titled Kalank. The Abhishek Varman directorial also stars Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. Presented by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Kalank is slated to hit the theatres on April 17, 2019.
