Delighted Narendra Modi tweets his wishes to Oscar entry 'The Good Road' team
The BJP's PM candidate seemed thrilled that his state Gujarat's film was selected as India's official entry for the Oscars.
On Saturday, the most anticipated announcement was made that Gyan Correa's Gujarati film The Good Road would be India's entry for the best foreign film category at the Academy Awards.The film beat favourite The Lunchbox and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The film won the National Award for Best Feature Film (Gujarati) earlier this year. Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap who made rival film The Lunchbox took to Twitter to express their disappointment at their weel-acclaimed film not being chosen. As the debate on which film should have made it to the Oscars heated up, Gujarat CM and BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi tweeted wishing the filmmakers of The Good Road.
Modi tweeted,
The choice of India's entry was made by a jury headed by Bengali filmmaker Goutam Ghose from the Film Federation of India.
Only three Indian films Mehboob Khan's Mother India in 1957, Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay in 1988 and Ashutosh Gowariker's Lagaan in 2001 have been the only films that have made it to the nomination stage of the Oscar.Last year, India had sent Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Barfi! as the official entry but the film failed to go far.
