Actress Deepal Shaw has turned designer, of sorts. The actress, who is still remembered for her performance in Kalyug, has been designing her own clothes for quite some time now and is now overseeing her wardrobe in her forthcoming film as well. “The glamour industry is such that your clothes pretty much define you. I felt that since I have the creative knack to design, why not take it up seriously,” says Shaw.

“I have always designed my own outfits and I supervise every stitch to make sure it’s nothing short of perfect. In my forthcoming film Vikalp also, I made sure that I was involved in selecting costumes for my character,” says Shaw, who plays a small town underprivileged girl who goes on to become an ambitious software engineer in the film.

Shaw says that she did her homework and came up with a wardrobe that had a parallel to real life, especially in the textures and fabrics department.

Ask her how did this transition, from acting to designing come about, and Shaw says, “An artistic inclination, be it that of a painter or an actor, is just part of one’s personality. One cannot try too hard to become something. I’m an unusual dresser. There is an unusual element in all that I wear. If I’m classy, I’ll be extremely classy and if I feel eccentric, I’ll go to the extremes.”

Shaw, who set the screen ablaze with her item number in a music video when she was just 17 years old, says that she is in no hurry to join the rat race. “That is why as an actor I have a lot more to show the world. I think that when you enter the rat race, you just limit your scope to perform. I’m having fun and I’m sure about myself,” she ends.
