Two years after over 13 people who had plotted to kill the Bhatt family were arrested, Mahesh Bhatt has received another extortion call. An unidentified individual has reportedly demanded Rs 50 lakh from Bhatt and threatened to kill his wife Soni Razdan and daughter Alia Bhatt, if he failed to deposit the amount in a Lucknow-based bank branch.

Later in the day, UP STF arrested Sandeep Sahu, a 27-year-old man from Lucknow in connection with the case.

According to an India Today report, Bhatt received a threat call on February 26. Initially he assumed it was a prank, but then he also received text and WhatsApp messages from the caller who claimed to be a gang leader. "If you fail to do so, I will fire several rounds of bullets in your daughter Alia and wife Soni," he threatened.

Worried about his family's life, Mahesh Bhatt filed a case in Juhu police station on Wednesday. It was reported that the case has been registered under section 387 (causing a person to fear death or grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion).

Taking cognizance of the matter, Mumbai police has recorded statements of Bhatt family and has beefed up their security.

The case was transferred to Anti Extortion Cell (ANC), who along with Uttar Pradesh State Task Force (STF) identified the culprit and detained him.
