Cyrus Sahukar's journey from television to films

He started at the age of 18 and ‘grew up on television’, as he puts it. In 2009, VJ-turned-actor Cyrus Sahukar progressed from TV to films and is learning on the job once again.

His forthcoming film, Love, Breakups, Zindagi, sees him play  the 30-year-old Govind. “He’s always wanted to plan his life in advance, but ends up getting divorced twice by the time he turns 30. One fine day, he decides to break free from the corporate set up and live life on his own terms, make mistakes and learn from them,” Cyrus informs.

Quiz him if Govind is similar to him in real life and he states, “I, too, just turned 30 and like him, I want to do what I feel like doing. Of course, both Govind and I prefer hanging out with people older than us.”

The actor is all praise for his director Sahil Sangha and producers, Dia Mirza and Zayed Khan. “To know what it is to be pampered, one must work in a Born Free production,” says Cyrus.

It’s a fact that all his films — Delhi 6, Aisha and LBZ — are distinctly different from each other. “In Delhi 6, I got to work with a gamut of talented actors and the one thing I learnt from them is that they could sustain themselves for years in the industry because they were so open to absorbing (knowledge). Of course, Aisha was a very different film with a set of young people,” Cyrus says.

Mention Aisha and his alleged romance with Sonam Kapoor (they starred together in Delhi 6 too) and Cyrus states, “There never has been any romance between us. I am friends with a lot of people, including girls and hang out often with them. I don’t feel I’m that important to make news otherwise.”

Meanwhile, Cyrus is busy with his hit mime comedy act with which he’s travelling the world; as well as penning a feature film. “There’s really no time for anything else,” he ends.
