Actor Vemal, who rose to fame in Tamil cinema through the rural entertainer Kalavani, has been booked by Virugambakkam police for allegedly assaulting Telugu actor Abishek. Vemal is also known for acting in films such as director Pandiraj's national award-winning drama Pasanga and Sivakarthikeyan's Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga.

According to reports, Vemal and a group of his friends engaged in a tiff with Kannada actor Abishek in Virugambakkam a couple of days back. Reports also suggest that Abhishek was admitted to a hospital and a case has been filed against Vemal.

"Around, 1.30 am, a group of men including Vemal arrived at the service apartment and asked for a room. Abhishek was a guest at the apartment, and there was a heated discussion between the group and Abishek. Then the issue got ugly, and the group started to beat Abishek," says a source.

News Channels report that Virugambakkam Police have registered cases under the section 294b (using profanity as a form of abuse) and section 323 (voluntarily causing harm). The Virugambakkam policemen are currently on the lookout for Vemal and his gang, who are allegedly absconding from the public glare.

On the professional front, Vemal is currently shooting for Kalavaani 2, which also stars Bigg Boss fame Oviya as the lead heroine. Audiences highly appreciated the duo's chemistry in the first part directed by Sarkunam.
