The man who tried to save Paul Walker from the fiery crash has been revealed to be his childhood friend of more than 25 years.

Newt Wimer raced to the scene of the Santa Clarita, California and had tried to put out the fire around the Porsche, which had Walker and Roger Rodas inside, Radar Online reported.

The 37-year-old stuntman even burnt his arms during the rescue attempt and was eventually detained by police at the scene for his own protection

Wimer and Walker attended high school together and they stayed as close friends through the years.

Wimer had even played an active role in Walker’s charity, Reach Out WorldWide and was an engineer on Walker and Rodas’ racing team, Always Evolving.
