Deepika Padukone had a lot of firsts with Chennai Express, in which she is  paired again with her first hero Shah Rukh Khan (she debuted with him in Om Shanti Om). The film is Deepika’s first Eid release and is also her first film with director Rohit Shetty. It is also for the first time that she is playing a South Indian character on screen. Says the actress, who has just delievered her first Rs100 crore film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, “Chennai Express is our Eid offering.

It is a time of the year when the whole family likes to be entertained. So after Ramadan we are getting some fun, family entertainment for everyone. This is more special for me because this will be my first Eid release. With this film it feels like I’m going back to my roots. I’m playing a Tamilian girl for the first time and had to learn the accent to the T. It was quite fun to play this completely different role after all the other roles that I have played.”

Deepika adds, “Because of me and Shah Rukh in the film, there is a strong undercurrent of a love story in the movie. This will be a first for Rohit in terms of a proper love story. So we have basically made a family entertainer love story... completely Rohit Shetty ishtyle.

Just as our tagline goes... Come Fall in Love... Rohit Shetty ishtyle!”
