Apparently, it is North America's Largest South Asian Cultural festival which kicked off on August 19 and concluded on 21. This three-day cultural extravaganza has been running in Toronto for 11 years and this year the organisers invited Deol to showcase six of his films.

Along with his films, Deol was also honoured for his contribution and special honor to recognise his work in Hindi cinema.

This is not the first time that Deol is doing the film festival rounds. He has always been one of those who has travelled the world to various film festivals with his films, be it Dev D or Road Movie or Ek Chalis Ki Last Local.

A source from the festival in Canada says, “Bollywood is huge in Canada and people here are crazy about Hindi films. Also the audience loves Bollywood actors.

So when Deol was chosen to represent Bollywood this time, he was more than happy. On being invited, the actor immediately said yes and adjusted his dates and worked his schedule around a little bit to squeeze in the three-day film festival.”

After screening the films, Jason Kennedy, the Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism presented a citation on behalf of the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper.

Kennedy said, “Many in Canada have appreciated Abhay’s films, particularly in the South Asian diaspora, and we hope that his presence at the festival will continue to excite and entertain Canada and her diverse people.
