Clothing brand FabIndia is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The brand recently put out a tweet promoting its latest clothing collection titled 'Jashn-e-Riwaaz' for the upcoming Diwali festivities. However, the name 'Jashn-e-Riwaaz' for a Diwali collection, did not go down well with social media users who demanded an immediate boycott of the brand.

On October 9, FabIndia tweeted out the campaign for the Diwali collection with a post and wrote, "As we welcome the festival of love and light, Jashn-e-Riwaaz, by FabIndia is a collection that beautifully pays homage to Indian culture…" The campaign featured men and women who were seen modelling beautiful garments in vibrant shades of red, maroon and gold.

Soon after netizens noticed the tweet, the brand had to face the wrath of social media users for calling the Diwali collection 'Jashn-e-Riwaaz'. Netizens blamed the clothing brand for 'damaging the Hindu festival of Diwali'. One user tweeted, "FabIndia is owned by William Nanda Bissell ..Converted Hindus are more dangerous than born abrAhimics..Look how bit by bit they are eliminating India's Hindu Identity..Be it @TanishqJewelry or @FabindiaNews all are anti Hindus.." "Our festival is Diwali but according to  @FabindiaNews
Diwali is called Jashn-e-Riwaaz.  So #BoycottFabIndia Now. As if they have 3rd class collection," wrote another Twitter user.

Uttarakhand MLA Rajkumar, Tejaswi Surya, President of BJP Yuva Morcha too called out the brand for 'abrahamisation of Hindu festivals'. Several other netizens called out the clothing brand for unnecessarily trying to infuse religions, and attempting to impose a 'secular' world view.

After the social media uproar over the collection's title, the company pulled down its tweet and changed the title of the Diwali capsule collection to Fab India Festive 2021.

Meanwhile, in an interview with indianexpress.com, the company shared its take on the whole issue. FabIndia stated, "We at FabIndia have always stood for the celebration of India with its myriad traditions in all hues. In fact, 'FabIndia – Celebrate India' is our tagline and also a wordmark. Our current capsule of products under the name Jashn-e-Riwaaz is a celebration of Indian traditions. The phrase means that, literally. The capsule is not our Diwali Collection of products. Our Diwali collection is called 'Jhilmil si Diwali' is yet to be launched. Please do keep a lookout. It is going to be beautiful."

Earlier, jewellery brand Tanishq had also faced the ire of netizens for their advertisement promoting inter-faith marriages. Another clothing brand Manyavar faced #boycottmanyavar when it released an advertisement starring Alia Bhatt addressing the tradition of 'Kanyadaan' in a Hindu wedding.
