Amitabh Bachchan is of the view that “unequal level of education is responsible for lack of good quality scripts in the Indian film industry.” Given that the statement is coming from the Shahenshah of Hindi cinema, there will be instant takers for it. Bachchan’s view, however, has to be taken with a pinch of salt. More importantly, the linkage between creativity and education and vice versa must be probed.
A Zee Research Group (ZRG) profiling of script writers throws up interesting results. Take for instance, celebrated lyricist, scrip writer and poet Gulzar worked as a car mechanic in a Delhi garage before his Bollywood innings. Likewise, examples from Hollywood indicate that creativity in not confined to those with higher degrees.

decorated script writer, lyricist, poet and director, Gulzar has given movies like Koshish, Mausam and Maachis.
He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004 for his contribution to the arts and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002. He has won a number of National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards. The high point of his film career came in 2009, when Gulzar won the Academy Awards for Best Original Song for “Jai Ho” in the film Slumdog Millionaire On 31 January 2010, the same song won him a Grammy Awards in the category of Grammy Awards for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.
