Rajasthan government on Saturday said it will appeal before the High Court against the acquittal of actors Sonali Bendre, Neelam Kothari, Tabu, Saif Ali Khan and others in the Blackbuck poaching case in which Bollywood star Salman Khan was held guilty.

A Jodhpur court had in April convicted Salman Khan for killing two blackbucks, from the antelope family, in Kankani village near Jodhpur on the night of October 1, 1998 during the shooting of his film 'Hum Saath Saath Hain'.

According to the prosecution, all the actors were in a Gypsy that night with Salman in the driving seat. He spotted a herd of blackbucks and killed two of them, the lawyer said.

While Salman was sentenced to five years' imprisonment after being convicted Under Section 9/51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, his co-stars were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

Final arguments of the case were completed in the trial court on March 28, after which Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri had reserved his judgment. On April 5, the court sentenced him to five years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

Khan was sent the Jodhpur jail, where he spent two nights. Later, district and sessions Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi granted him bail in the case.

This was his fourth stint in the Jodhpur Central Jail. He has earlier spent a total of 18 days in the jail in 1998, 2006 and 2007, all for cases of poaching.

The actor has challenged the trial court order before a district and sessions court in Jodhpur. The court began the hearing the plea against the conviction in May.

In August, the court ruled that the 'Race 3' star will need to seek its permission every time he has to travel abroad.

The ruling came in response to an application filed by the 52-year-old's lawyers, asking for an exemption from seeking permission for foreign travel.
