Sargun Mehta is on cloud nine. Her personal and professional life are on an upswing. The actress will be tying the knot with her beau, actor Ravi Dubey (best remembered as Tez in Saas Bina Sasural) on December 7 in Chandigarh. Besides, the actress is currently seen in the coveted role of Ganga (Anjali Abrol, Rishina Kandhari were in contention), and is gearing up to host a show for the first time on TV. “Yes, I have hosted a few red carpet events, but Boogie Woogie will be my first outing as a host on TV,” smiles Sargun, who remebers auditioning for the show as a participant when she was a child. “Both my brother and I had wanted to take part. I danced on I’m a Barbie girl, and my brother performed on Oh o jaane jana, but both of us were rejected. Now, I am happy I am on the same stage as a host,” says the actress.

Ask her if she is taking any tips from Ravi — he had co-hosted India’s Dancing Superstar — and she says he did a “superb job. He thinks on his feet. I loved Ravi ki kalam se, which was part of the script but he worked hard on it.” However, she feels one can’t prepare to be a host. “You just have to be open-minded, realise what the moment calls for and let your inhibtions down,” says Sargun. Another host she admires is Manish Paul. “Manish is  somebody who is all there and makes you laugh, so yes I will take a bit of Ravi and Manish,” she says with a grin.

As for playing Ganga in Balika Vadhu, Sargun says she always wanted to play a typical bahu “because TV is identified with a rural bahu”. Tell her that she is replacing an actress who is associated with the role and she quips, “Sriti Jha has done well as Ganga, but I took it as a challenge. Audiences will surely take time in warming up to me. It may take few months but eventually they will forget the old face playing the same character. Today replacements are a common thing.” She adds that Ganga is completely unlike her. “She is not bubbly or outspoken like me. She has a lot of depth and is a strong girl — the combination interested me,” says Sargun who shot to fame with her role as the dacoit in Phulwa. “Playing a daku was a life changing scene. I had played a bubbly girl in Karol Bagh (that’s where she met and fell in love with Ravi), a shy girl Geeta in Apno Ke Liye Geeta Ka Dharamyudh but Phulwa had  plenty of action, drama and romance — everything that a hero does,” she says. One role she connected with was Bulbul in Kya Hua Tera Vaada. “She was fierce and independent like me,” she says.

It was Ravi’s exact opposite nature that attracted her to him. “His compassion and consideration for everyone impressed me. We were co-stars in  Karol Bagh, so I got to know him on the sets, became friends and slowly it struck me that I like him. After doing Nach Baliye5 we understand each other’s anger levels too! Ravi is my emotional support,” says the actress, whose preparations for the impending marriage are in full swing. A four-day ceremony including sangeet, mehndi, cocktail etc will lead to their marriage on December 7, followed by a reception in Delhi on December 9 and another one in Mumbai on 13th. The bride-to-be, who has shopped from all over Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh will be wearing a maroon lehenga on the D-Day.
