Certain stars like Vidya Balan, Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das are known to promote Indian weavers. Now Anushka Sharma has joined the gang. She has worn a lot of Phulkari (stitched by local tailors) and local silver jewelry for her next release, Phillauri as she believes in promoting local craftsmen. Phulkari is a special kind of embroidery technique from Punjab and means flower work, which was at one time used as the word for embroidery and is integral to Punjabi culture. The actress went out of her way to find Phulkari fabrics and handloom at the local markets in Punjab, for the characters in her film and will be seen wearing it herself too. She was helped in this by her co-actor Mehreen Pirzada’s mother.
