2017 for Akshay Kumar has started on a successful note. His new film, Jolly LLB 2, has grossed over Rs 50 crore in its opening weekend, which makes it the all-time highest weekend for the month of February. In fact it's also the highest non-holiday opening weekend for an AK-starrer.

The courtroom drama which also courted a bit of controversy at the outset has elicited praises from the critics and the masses. According to trade analyst Amod Mehra, "He has proved that one doesn't need a big festival to release a film. He seems to have understood the pulse of the audience and has been doing a panoply of roles. His films are also made within a limited budget, so recovery is easier."

With exams and civic elections around the corner, weekdays will be the litmus test for the film.
