A couple of days ago, Kashmiri singer-composer Aabha Hanjura released her single Khanmoej Koor and was inundated with positive reactions. Her version of the traditional Kashmiri wedding song is her second single after Hukus Bukus from her forthcoming album, Aabha Hanjura & The Sound of Kashmir

The musician reveals that she wants to release singles as of now, before launching her album “in a big way”. She explains, “I’m an independent artiste, not backed by any label. So, for the album, a lot of people have to join and also, it has to make sense financially.” Although many believe that albums don’t make sense anymore, in Aabha’s opinion, the more people think something is redundant, the more it becomes relevant. “If you put out an album with popular tracks, there are connoisseurs of good music who want to have the album in their possession. Let’s see, the plan is in my head right now. It has to become a people’s movement and they have to support music in the right way. Let’s hope the tribe grows,” she adds with a smile.

As of now, Aabha’s plan is to make her digital presence stronger. “An album is a work of many years — mine has been in the making for the past two-and-a-half years — but I have plans of doing an EP in between. I will come up with some acoustic folk-pop tracks in other languages. I want to sing in Punjabi and Dogri as well, as I speak the latter quite well,” she reveals, promising that there will be a lot of interesting music coming from her.
