A big weekend for short films

The dna Shortcuts – Mumbai’s Biggest Short-Film Festival  —  took place over the weekend at Fun Republic, Andheri. Five winners were picked from more than 100 entries. This was one housefull affair and a treat for movie buffs, as hundreds thronged the venue. Bejoy Nambiar shared his experiences and gave tips on the technicalities of filmmaking. Accompanying him was filmmaker Heeraz Marfatia, whose short film Birju was an Oscar nominee. The two held captive the attention of the crowds in an interactive session.

In another segment, Madhur Bhandarkar had the audience in splits with his witty answers and the winners seemed thrilled to get their awards from the renowned filmmaker. Madhur said that given the right content, he would be game to try the short film format. Cyrus Dastur, the founder member of Shamiana Short Film Club, had the crowds hooked to his gyaan on the short film format. Following the much-appreciated session, some interesting films were screened followed by the screening of the winning five films.

Day two saw Sonam Kapoor, Krishika Lulla, directors Aanand L Rai and Anand Gandhi interact with the audience. Gandhi spoke about the technical aspect of filmmaking as well as the increasing awareness about short films around the world. 93.5 Red FM RJ Malishka was among the guests present.
