2016 was a disappointing year for sequels with only one bonafide hit, Housefull 3. There are quite a few high profile and much-awaited installments to look forward to, in 2017. We bring to you 10 such films.

Baahubali 2 The ConclusionApril 14

Now this one is as huge as it gets. Ever since Katappa killed Baahubali, there have been countless theories around what led him to take this drastic step. No wonder, even the promotional material of the film’s sequel has a hash-tag going as #WKKB (Why Katappa Killed Baahubali). Nothing short of spectacular is expected from SS Rajamouli in this sequel, starring Prabhas, which releases in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

2.0Diwali

When Rajinikanth arrived with Robot, new records were set. Now that the film’s sequel has been titled plain and simple 2.0 by director Shankar, the inclusion of Akshay Kumar as the antagonist has only multiplied the excitement around the film. The Tamil-Hindi bilingual has managed to fetch quite some attention from the distributors and has now managed an all-India solo release on Diwali. Way to go!

Tiger Zinda HaiDecember 21

On its Eid release, Ek Tha Tiger had managed a record start for itself. Though one hadn’t really anticipated a sequel for the film, Yash Raj Films threw a surprise a few months ago by announcing Tiger Zinda Hai. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif would be back as lovers from across the border, though this time around the director would be Ali Abbas Zafar of Sultan fame. The film will be seeing a Christmas release.

Jolly LLB 2February 10

The first sequel of 2017, Jolly LLB 2 comes with high expectations. The film’s promo has been loved and fetched much appreciation. Akshay Kumar, riding on the wave of a hat-trick of successes (Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom), is truly in his element as a middle-class lawyer from Lucknow who takes on nothing less than the ‘State’ itself. Director Subhash Kapoor is expected to delight again after Jolly LLB.

Golmaal AgainTo be announced

Now this is one sequel which has been much awaited, ever since Golmaal 3 turned out to be a Rs 100 crore hit. The film sees Rohit Shetty back with his biggest franchise till date and yet again, one looks forward to the escapades of Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor. Parineeti Chopra is the fresh inclusion as the leading lady and one waits to see how she adds on to all the magic and mayhem of Golmaal.

Judwaa 2September 29

It was exactly two decades ago when Salman Khan, David Dhawan and Sajid Nadiadwala had made a cracker of an entertainer called Judwaa. Now that the film’s sequel has been announced, one waits to check out how Varun Dhawan fills in Salman’s big shoes. VD has Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu for company and one waits to see how the Dussehra release performs.

Naam ShabanaMarch 31

Taapsee Pannu is clearly having the time of her life, what with films across varied genres to her credit. Naam Shabana is one such film, which is a prequel to Baby. Though there is a trend to make sequels as well as franchise affairs, a prequel is unheard of in Bollywood. In that aspect, producer Neeraj Pandey along with Akshay Kumar has a task in hand to introduce audiences to something new in Naam Shabana.

Sarkar 3March 17

Sarkar was much appreciated and Sarkar Raj did reasonably well too. However, post that, Ram Gopal Varma and Amitabh Bachchan took quite some time before announcing Sarkar 3. This time around, Big B has company of Manoj Bajpayee, Yami Gautam, Jackie Shroff, Ronit Roy and Amit Sadh. Yet again, RGV is wrapping up the film in record time and the theatrical promo will be unveiled with Raees and Kaabil.

Hate Story 4October 13

Director Vishal Pandya may have met with disappointing results with his Wajah Tum Ho, but he returns to his successful franchise Hate Story with fourth in the series. Each of the films in the past has done better business than the one before and one waits to see how Hate Story 4 turns out to be. Though one still waits for the cast and plot line to be announced, rest assured the legacy of erotic thrillers will continue.

Commando 2March 3

On its release, Commando was a fair success. Everyone took notice of the film’s lead protagonist, Vidyut Jammwal though. The man has some never-seen-before action moves and that is something which is expected to be the highlight of Commando 2 as well. The film, which has Esha Gupta and Adah Sharma as the leading ladies, also marks the directorial debut of Deven Bhojani of Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai fame.
