The city traffic police on Thursday unveiled Guide to Road Safety ahead of the traffic awareness week which will be held from January 6 to 13.

The book focuses on various safety measures while driving and medical aid a person should use in case of an accident.Quoting a survey, the book states that 1.3 million people die worldwide due to accidents and 10% of the deaths are in India.

The survey also states that on an average, 45% of fatalities in road accidents are caused due to head injuries. The book notes that in many cases, the accident could have been avoided if the victim was brought to hospital on time. Abdul Hafeez, chief operating officer of MG Diagnostics, said: “This initiative is being undertaken to make people aware of the basic principles to be kept in mind before riding or driving a vehicle. We hope this initiative will help save lives and also inculcate road sense among motorists.”

The book will be available for free at all police stations across the city.
