2.Kalank
Kalank, a period drama set in pre-independence India, featured Varun as Zafar, a blacksmith with a troubled past. Despite the film's grand visuals and ensemble cast, it underperformed at the box office, collecting around Rs 146.31 crore worldwide, reportedly. Varun's intense portrayal, however, was noted for its depth.
3.Sui Dhaaga
In Sui Dhaaga, Varun took on the role of Mauji, a tailor striving for self-reliance. The film highlighted the spirit of entrepreneurship and garnered positive reviews. It performed well commercially, reportedly earning Rs 125.09 crore worldwide, and was praised for its realistic storytelling.
4.Badlapur
Badlapur showcased Varun in a darker, more intense role as Raghu, a man seeking revenge for his family's death. This neo-noir thriller was a critical success and marked a significant shift in Varun's acting trajectory. The film reportedly grossed around Rs 81.30 crore worldwide, affirming his capability in serious roles.

In the horror-comedy Bhediya, Varun played Bhaskar, who transforms into a werewolf. The film was noted for its unique concept and visual effects. Despite its novelty, it had a modest box office performance, collecting reportedly Rs 28.55 crore during its opening weekend.
