What happens when two harried corporate PAs who fancy themselves as workplace cupids, try to set up their respective bosses to ensure a happily-ever-after for themselves. Well, things don’t go as planned and cupid strikes at them instead. 

Takeaway: Romance does not always start with a meet cute moment like in the movies. And more often than not playing cupid and trying to set things up for absoulte strangers may not always work especially if you have no clue about what makes them tick. The very basis of getting two people together is to ensure they are compatible and one should not try to play cupid if they do not have enough information at hand.

This romcom looks at interracial relationships, and weaves a love story around it. It looks at what happens when your most private thoughts become public. Embarrassment, awkward conversations and a feeling of wanting to be swallowed by the earth are just some of the motions one goes through. 

Takeaway: No matter how embarrassing or bad things seem now, remember this too shall pass. Having a head on your shoulders can get you out of the most akward situations. You can’t always protect yourself from heartache, and you have to take a chance and express your feelings or risk losing the one you love.

Elle and Lee’s friendship has survived many ups and down including Elle’s mother’s death from cancer. Their bond is based on a fixed set of rules that they both adhere to and live by the mantra, “Always be happy for your bestie’s successes”. Their bond is tested when Elle breaks rule number nine, “Relatives of your best friend are totally off-limits” by dating Lee’s brother Noah. 

Takeway: Relationships are never easy whether it’s a friendship or a budding romance. Lies and deception can cause havoc in any relationship. While Elle may have not consiciously lied to Lee, it did end up looking that way. While we love the fact that Noah and Elle’s romance is positive and consensual. We do feel there’s something you can learn from Elle and Lee. Being honest about your feelings can hurt people at times, but that’s better than to lie to them. A good friend will eventually come around, and want you to be happy no matter what.

Young couple Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) and Henry Golding (Nick Young) go on a trip to Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. Along the way, Rachel discovers that he’s extremely wealthy and his family isn’t exactly warming up to her.

Takeaway: When it comes to relationships, you may not always come from the same backgrounds but that does not have to be a deal-breaker, provided you both are willing to make things work. Ultimately, a relationship is between two people, and the moment you let the world into your world, things are bound to go downhill. Learn to accept your differences, don’t let that become a bigger problem, and always remember, that fame, fortune and money will come and go, but it’s the character that makes a person, and as long as your partner has a good moral compass and a strong will, you can navigate and weather many storms together.

Takeway: A self-affirming message. “I’m just like you.” Sexual orientation does not take away the identity of the person, it is a part of who they are, and that should not be a point of discrimination.
