I haven't yet done a dance film: Tusshar Kapoor

Tusshar Kapoor made his debut with Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai (2001), a remake of the Telugu film Tholi Prema, with Kareena Kapoor Khan. He got the Best Male Debut award for his very first film. He completes 15 years in Bollywood this year, we asked him 15 questions.

A role on your wishlist?

I haven't yet done a dance film. Would love to take my dancing abilities to the next level, even if it requires me to learn something new. Huge fan of the horror genre too, I guess that's also on my wish list.

Any questions for critics?

Why are you guys so prejudiced against commercial cinema? Fun, crazy masala movies require as much talent, focus & method! Charlie Chaplin popularised slapstick form of comedy, remember? Therefore, lets judge a film on its merits & not the sensibilities! Genre doesn't define intelligence.

You've been nominated for an Oscars. What would your speech be?

Firstly, this is too hypothetical! Secondly, even though I love the Oscar ceremony, I have no burning desire to win one. I'd much rather be part of a Sholay or a Mughal-E-Azam! If not, even Golmaal 4 is perfect.

A performance that you thought was vastly overrated in recent times?

Not an actor, but I think Spotlight was an overrated docudrama. It was probably the most politically correct film. It failed to move me or engage me enough to follow what's going on! Therefore, seemed confusing, and a bit pretentious too.

Jeetendra, Shobha and Ekta – who is your friend, philosopher and guide?

Ekta is a friend, dad my philosopher and mom the guide.

Who is your celebrity crush?

JLo is the all time favourite celebrity crush. Childhood crush was Demi Moore. Rekha Ji and Sridevi Ji all time favourite Bollywood heroines.

What kind of music do you like?

I love all kinds of music, especially contemporary American pop & retro 80s soft rock & pop! Also love old Hindi songs from the 70s & 80s esp RD Burman & Rajesh Roshan. Favourite song...'Everybody wants to rule the world' by 'Tears For Fears'.

Who among your contemporaries does an adult comedy best?

I think no one but me. Who else can do raunchy adult comedy and still convince viewers that the situation wasn't my fault?

What sound do you love?

Love the sound of soothing instrumental music, mostly played at spas! Hate the sound of someone continuously knocking a door and getting no response!

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

If heaven exists, when I arrive at the pearly gates I wish God would tell me ,"You've earned your place here." However, I also wish that he'd tell me," I'd like to send you back to Earth to live life again like that of Heaven on Earth!

Are you a temperamental person?

Basically, my temperament is that of a typical Scorpio! Forgive, but never forget. Socialise a lot but need my quiet time, too!

Any obsessions, inhibitions, superstitions or phobias?

I can get in the OCD mode about cleanliness, order and about competing tasks! I get obsessed with the people I love! I have phobia of heights, lizards, unforeseen negative circumstances, and journalists like yourself! Inhibitions: I am still dealing with some stage fright, entering a party... need warm up and then I'm fine. I am not really superstitious anymore.

If you were a biscuit, which would you be?

I think if I were a biscuit I'd be a digestive biscuit, not too sweet, healthy but not boring, also works worldwide!
