'The Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'Birdman' lead Oscar 2015 nominations with 9 nods each

Birdman and Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel led the Academy Awards nominees on Thursday with nine nods each, including best picture, in the race for Hollywood's top film prize.
The other best picture nominees are American Sniper, Boyhood, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory of Everything and Whiplash. The Academy chose only eight films, although it can nominate up to 10.
British World War Two biopic The Imitation Game garnered eight nominations, including best actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, while Iraq war portrait American Sniper and Golden Globe winner for best drama, Boyhood, each earned six.
Disney's Big Hero 6 and Dreamworks Animations How To Train Your Dragon 2 are two strong contenders in the Best Animated Film category. How to Train Your Dragon 2 will create history if it won being the only animated franchise to win Academy award. The Lego Movie has one nomination in the original score category for the song Everything Is Awesome

India's hopes were placed in music maestro AR Rahman for Million Dollar Arm, The Hundred Foot Journey, and Rajinikanth starrer Kochadiiyaan, and Sonu Nigam for Jal. Both of them failed to make the cut.
Neil Patrick Harris will host the 87th Oscars ceremony which will take place in Los Angeles on February 22.
