State governments across the country are taking steps to reopen the schools in their areas as the COVID-19 situation across the country is improving significantly. The government of West Bengal has made an announcement recently regarding the reopening of schools in the state.
The government of West Bengal will be reopening the schools in the state soon, as per the latest statement. The West Bengal government will be reopening the schools and other educational institutes in the state after the Durga Puja vacations are over, as per recent reports.
Though the government has announced that schools will reopen after Durga Puja, no final dates for the same have been issued yet. The state government further said that this is not a firm decision and it can be changed as per the COVID-19 situation in the state at the time.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced a few days ago that if the third wave of the COVID pandemic does not do much damage to the state, the administration will issue the final dates regarding the reopening of schools and resumption of offline classes.
Apart from the reopening of schools in the state, the West Bengal government is also planning to resume offline classes in colleges, universities, coaching centres, and other educational institutions. The government has further announced that the decision regarding the reopening of schools will be taken keeping the health of the students in mind.
CM Banerjee has also acknowledged the problems faced by students studying from home. She said, “No doubt students are suffering a lot as schools remain closed, but concerns over their health cannot be ignored.” She said if the COVID cases in the state increase, then the schools will remain closed in West Bengal.
The schools in West Bengal were shut down in March 2020 and the classes are being conducted in online mode ever since. The schools were reopened briefly for senior classes but were shut down once again due to the second wave of the pandemic.
