As the UPSC Civil Services Exams 2021 prelims are approaching, here are some tips for you to follow to revise current affairs topics.
The UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE), which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission every year, is the toughest examination to crack in the country, which is why a lot of candidates are getting stuck on certain topics while preparing for the paper.
As the UPSC Civil Services Exam 2021 prelims are approaching, many candidates are struggling with heaps of current affairs topics from different fields and states in the country. Current affairs topics need to study with precision, with each date and each location ingrained in your memory.
Many UPSC aspirants tend to melt under pressure when it comes to revising their current affairs topics. With the UPSC CSE 2021 prelims scheduled for October 10, 2021, this year, mentioned below are some tips you can follow to revise current affairs topics.
Have a wide time-frame
Since there is a vast range of current affairs topics to cover, UPSC aspirants should start the revision at least four to five months before the examination. Devote at least one to two hours of your study time to remain up to date with all the new topics of current affairs.
Comprehensive and inclusive study
The current affairs section holds a lot of weightage in the UPSC prelims examination, but that does not mean that one should ignore the static syllabus. The candidate should create a study pattern where both, current affairs and the rest of the syllabus are divided equally throughout the day.
Select your study material carefully
Since lakhs of students across the country aspire to clear the UPSC civil services exam every year, there is no shortage of books and study materials for the current affairs section. One must always be careful while choosing their study material, as not all of the books can be accurate and trustworthy.
One must also limit the number of books they are consulting at one time, as studying from a wide range of books can be overwhelming for the student.
Relate static syllabus with current affairs
It might not be possible for every UPSC aspirant to give equal time to their general syllabus and current affairs topics each day. In such a case, the aspirant must try to relate the static syllabus topics with current affairs topics, by studying the background of each topic, such as dates, important names, facts, and policies.
Make your own notes
Even though current affairs are vast and seem never-ending, it is advised that the UPSC aspirant should make their own notes, as students tend to understand and learn concepts better if they have written them down a couple of times. Try to go over these notes at least once a day if you want to excel in your exam.
Use infographics, charts
It is a proven fact that images tend to last longer in our brains as compared to the written word. Thus, it is advised that the aspirants try to use images, charts, infographics, and tables to learn vital parts of the current affairs topics. Try to incorporate these images into your daily study routine.
Sound body, sound mind
The preparations for UPSE Civil Services examinations are proven to be stressful and many students tend to suffer from anxiety and other stress-related issues when they indulge in studies too much. All the aspirants are advised to take frequent breaks while studying and focus on their mental health.
