Smita Sabharwal is called the people's officer. This is because she tries to help scores of people every day.
Civil Services is one of the toughest exams in India to crack. Every year, lakhs of aspirants apply to appear for the competitive exam, but only a few of the candidates make it to the final list. However, several former UPSC candidates were successful in passing the UPSC CSE exam on their first, second, or sometimes on their fifth attempt. Today, let’s take a look at the success story of Smita Chaudhary, who secured UPSC rank 4 at the age of 23.
Smita Sabharwal, a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Telangana cadre and a member of the 2001 batch, has acquired the title "The People's Officer" for her prompt and accommodating attitude to addressing difficulties affecting citizens. She is notable for being the first woman assigned as an IAS officer to the Chief Minister's Office.
She is currently Telangana's Chief Minister's Secretary and also handles additional duties as Secretary of the Mission Bhagiratha Department's Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department. Her perseverance and successes have won her considerable praise and admiration.
Smita Sabharwal failed to pass the prelims on her first attempt in 2000, but she was able to pass the UPSC test on her second attempt with an AIR 4. She accomplished this achievement at the startlingly young age of 23. She then completed a demanding administrative training programme at Mussoorie's esteemed Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in 2001. She received invaluable training in the Adilabad district during her probationary time, establishing the groundwork for a successful career in civil services.
Smita had already demonstrated extraordinary academic achievement by earning the All India First Rank in her Class 12 board exams prior to her UPSC victory. She attended St. Ann's in Marredpally, Hyderabad, for her formal education, and St. Francis Degree College for Women is where she completed her B.Com.
Smita Sabharwal, an IAS, is a very popular person on social media and a very active member of the civil service. Over four lakh people follow her on Twitter, where she routinely expresses her opinions on matters pertaining to women.
She is also well-liked on Instagram, where she posts pictures and videos frequently revealing details about her coursework and the many activities she uses to relieve stress. Smita's use of social media demonstrates her commitment to her work and her efforts to engage with the public.
Due to the fact that her father Colonel PK Das is a retired army officer, IAS Smita Sabharwal, who is originally from Darjeeling, refers to herself as a "Army Brat." Smita Sabharwal developed the creative "Fund your City" initiative while serving as the Municipal Commissioner of Warangal. Through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), she made it possible to build many public facilities like traffic junctions, foot overbridges, bus stops, and parks. Her work in this capacity was admirable.
After her time in Warangal, she accepted the position of Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes in Visakhapatnam, demonstrating her adaptability and commitment to working in various administrative roles.
