School reopening news: Schools in Gujarat, Haryana all set to reopen - Check dates, SOPs

As Covid-19 cases begin to witness a declining trend in India, preparations are on to reopen schools and colleges across different states.

The Gujarat government on Friday decided to reopen schools for class 12 students and colleges for undergraduate and postgraduate students from July 15, while the Haryana government announced to reopen schools for Classes 9 to 12 from July 16.

Gujarat school reopening guidelines

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that nearly 50 percent of the students will be allowed to attend campuses, however, the attendance of students in such institutions is optional.

The state government has also mandated that the educational institutions obtain prior consent form the parents of the attending students.

"Gujarat to reopen schools for class 12 students and colleges for undergraduate and postgraduate students from July 15. 50 per cent of students will be allowed to attend campuses. Students can attend physical classes on a voluntary basis. Attendance will not be mandatory," said Rupani.

However, there has been no decision on reopening of primary schools.

Haryana school reopening guidelines

The Haryana government decided to reopen schools for Classes 9 to 12 from July 16, saying students will be allowed to join schools with the permission of their parents.

Besides, students of Classes 6 to 8 will also be able to come to schools with effect from July 23, said an official spokesperson, as per news agency PTI.

However, he said it would not be mandatory for the students to come to school as online classes will continue.

Social distancing and other rules will be applicable for the students coming to the schools, said the spokesperson.

No decision has been taken yet to open school for students of Classes 1 to 5.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday had said that a plan should be made to reopen the educational institutions subject to the strict adherence of the COVID-19 protocols. "Given the decline in the number of COVID-19 cases, a plan should be made to reopen the schools at the earliest," Khattar had said.
