REET Exam 2021: Internet services shut as 16 lakh sit for teacher exam - Know why

The Rajasthan government suspended mobile internet, SMS, MMS services in five districts of the state for 12 hours on Sunday (September 26) from 6 am to 6 pm as Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility Test  (REET) exam for teacher recruitment was scheduled, according to reports. After Ajmer, the services were also suspended in Alwar, Dausa, Jhunjhunu and Jaipur rural districts too, news agency ANI reported. The internet services was snapped to prevent cheating in exams, officials have said.

“Mobile internet services, bulk SMS/MMS and other social media by Internet Service Providers (except for voice call of landline, mobile phone, and landline broadband) to be suspended in Ajmer district from 6 am to 6 pm on September 26 in the wake of REET exam,” a government order read.

Around 16 lakh candidates appeared for the Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers (REET) exam on September 26. REET exam is conducted to recruit Level 1 (class 1-5) and Level 2 (classes 6-8) teachers. REET was held across 4,000 centres in Rajasthan for the admission of 31,000 teachers. The last REET was conducted in 2018.

The news agency in another tweet added, "Mobile internet services, bulk SMS/MMS and other social media by Internet Service Providers (except for voice call of landline, mobiles and landline broadband) to be temporarily suspended in Alwar, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur rural districts from 6am-6pm on September 26 due to REET exam."

REET was conducted at 4,153 examination centres set up at 200 places as in Jaipur alone, over 2.5 lakh candidates appeared for the examination at 592 centres.
