Schools reopening: Schools, colleges set to reopen in THIS Union Territory from July 16 - Details inside

With a decline in Covid-19 cases, the Puducherry government has decided to reopen schools in July. The Puducherry schools will be reopened from July 16 for students of classes 9-12 following all COVID-19 restrictions and safety guidelines. Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy made the announcement on Sunday.

“All schools for students in classes 9-12 will reopen from July 16. All colleges will also be reopened from July 16,” the Puducherry chief minister said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

In the last 24 hours, Puducherry has added 145 new COVID-19 cases, as recorded on Sunday morning. However, no fatalities have been reported in the past one day. The COVID-19 death toll in the district stands at 1769 currently.

“Vaccination has picked up in Puducherry, we’ve crossed over 5 lakh vaccinations. Our aim is to vaccinate the whole UT before August 15. People had vaccine hesitancy but now they’ve overcome it. Puducherry will be totally vaccinated before Aug 15, as per our plan,” Puducherry Lt Governor told ANI.

With daily COVID-19 cases hovering around the 3,000 mark, Tamil Nadu Government has further extended the lockdown, until July 19. Owing to the prevalent situation, inter-state bus transport (private and government), cinema halls, bars/pubs, swimming pools, cultural/political events involving the public, educational institutions, and zoos will remain closed.

The new set of guidelines will come into effect from Monday, July 12. The cap on wedding attendees will remain at 50, whereas the limit has been set at 20 for funerals.
