PSEB 10th result: Meet topper Neha Verma, daughter of truck driver who could not afford extra classes

As different state boards are releasing class 10th &12th results, the new stories of hope, struggle and achievements are coming in limelight

When Punjab Board announced the result to class 10th, a ray of happiness was spread overs students in the state but one girl who grabbed all the eyeballs was, Neha Verma.  

Student of Teja Singh Sutantar school at Ludhiana, Neha topped the class 10 examination, scoring 99.54 percent marks.

But her achievements did not come easy. Her father Pawan Kumar, who work as a truck driver and had no money to pay for her school’s extra classes worth Rs 350 per month.

Eldest among four siblings, Neha topped the examination by going regularly to school as her family could not afford coaching.

“I never opted for any tuition — neither I required coaching nor did my parents had money to pay for it. They gave my school fee and that was more than enough for me,” she said as quoted by Indian Express. 

Neha's parents are ecstatic about her result and requested school authorities to waive Rs 350 per month fee of group extra classes to which school authorities have agreed to after considering Neha’s academic performance.

“We could manage paying Rs 1,200 per month fee with great difficulty so we had requested the principal to exempt extra classes fee. We are thankful that school helped us,” she said to Indian Express.

Her father is on a tour when the results were announced but is overwhelmed by his daughter's achievement. 

Neha wants to be an IPS officer in the future.
