And Mohammed Ali Shihab is a perfect example of such an achievement. Mohammed Ali Shihab, a resident of Kerala, is a true inspiration for those who are facing adversities in life. Had financial crisis 

IPS Officer Mohammed Ali Shihab was born in Edavannappara, a village of Mallapuram district, Kerala. The family in which he was born was very poor and was facing a financial crisis. The financial condition of the family was so bad that in order to run his house, he had to work with his father and sell five more bamboo baskets at a very young age. Unfortunately, in the year 1991, his father died after a prolonged illness.

Was sent orphanage due to financial condition

After his father’s death, responsibilities came on Shihab's small shoulder at such young age. Neither his mother was educated nor she had a job so that she could take care of her children. Therefore, she had to send Shihab an orphanage due to poverty. There, along with the other orphaned children, he used to get enough food to eat. 

According to Shihab, his life in an orphanage was no less than a boon. During this time, Shihab's started writing and became smarter than all other children living in orphanages.

10 years in orphanage

Shihab lived for 10 years with orphaned children, in this orphanage. During this time, he started studying and reading. Shihab was so good in their studies that he became the centre of attraction for everyone in the orphanage. 

Cleared 21 government exams

Shihab says that ‘the discipline that he got from the orphanage helped him a lot in organizing his life.’ He needed money for his higher education. Therefore, he started preparing for the government agency exam. You will be amazed to know that Shihab cleared also cleared 21 various government agencies exams. 
Meanwhile, he had also worked in posts like Forest Department, Jail Warden and Railway Ticket Examiner. When he was 25 years, he gave UPSC exam for the first time.

Became an IAS Officer

He faced failures and difficulties in the first two attempts of UPSC Civil Services exam. However, he kept trying and didn’t give up. Finally, the time came when the son of a poor father and helpless mother turned dreams into reality. 
During his third attempt in the year 2011, Shihab cleared UPSC and secured All India 226. However, Shihab needed a translator for the interview as he was not too good in English. After which he scored 201 marks out of 300.
