Here is the story of Pradeep Dwivedi, who cracked UPSC in his third attempt and achieved 74th rank in all India. 

Pradeep hails from Bundelkhand and belonged to a simple family. His father was a farmer and his mother a homemaker. Pradeep has struggled a lot in his childhood and decided to pursue engineering from Bhopal. After completing the course he got a job at the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Department. 

Post working for a few years, he decided to appear for UPSC only twice, he had already made up his mind. However, it took a third attempt to achieve what he was aiming at. 

According to Pradeep, it is important to check the syllabus and the pattern for the UPSC exam on the website before starting the preparation. One can accordingly start preparing the study material. He says that formal coaching is not required initially but for exams like Mains one can opt for formal training. 

His advice to all young IAS aspirants is to refer the internet back and forth to keep yourself updated and consult a senior if needed. He has emphasised self-study and has given it utmost importance while preparing for UPSC.
