Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has recently announced that the state government has no recent plans to reopen the schools in urban areas for the time being. This decision was taken after a meeting was conducted with the pediatric experts regarding the resumption of offline classes.

No exact dates for the reopening of schools in Maharashtra have been issued yet.

Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad also said that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the reopening of schools in Maharashtra will be discussed in the next meeting conducted with experts. Only after this meeting, the decision regarding the reopening of schools will be issued.

The education minister said that a proposal will be prepared, after which Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will sign off on the decision to reopen the schools in the state. It is speculated that the schools will Maharashtra will reopen for physical classes from October.

The decision regarding Maharashtra schools reopening has not been taken by the government yet as many experts have suggested that the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic will hit the country soon. Maharashtra was one of the worst-hit states during the second wave of the pandemic.

The Maharashtra government has also aimed to complete the vaccination of teaching and non-teaching staff in educational institutes before the offline classes in the state resume. Their objective is to make sure that there is minimal risk of spreading the infection to students before reopening the schools.

Students in Maharashtra are pushing for the reopening of schools as online classes are not accessible for all, and many students are lagging behind in their syllabus.
