The government of Karnataka has made a big announcement regarding the reopening of schools in the state. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced on Monday that the schools are set to reopen for the students of Classes 6 to 8 from September 6, 2021.

The government of Karnataka had already reopened the schools for students of Classes 9 to 12 in districts where the COVID positivity rate was less than 2 percent. The schools for the senior classes were reopened from August 23, with several safety guidelines put into place.

While talking about the reopening of schools for Classes 6 to 8, State Education Minister BC Nagesh said, "Classes for standard 6 to 8 will resume in talukas with Covid positivity rate below 2%, starting from September 6. Classes will be conducted with 50% attendance, 5 days a week."

Similar to the decision issued by the government while reopening the schools for senior classes in August, the ministers have decided only to resume classes for the students of Classes 6 to 8 in districts where the COVID positivity rate is less than 2 percent, as per media reports.

The state government has also issued a list of guidelines to all the schools for the safety of the students and staff members. The government has said that the schools for Classes 6 to 8 will only open for five days a week, and sanitations will be conducted on the weekends in all the classrooms.

All students and staff members will be required to wear a mask on school premises at all times. Students will also be asked to maintain proper social distancing in all common areas. The seating arrangements in the classrooms will also be changed to make sure that the social distancing norms are being followed.

According to the state government, attendance in physical classes is not being made mandatory for now. Students still have the option to stay home and attend online classes for now. Both online and offline classes will be conducted simultaneously by the schools to make sure no one misses out on their studies.
