Karnataka has decided to resume schools for classes 9 to 12 only in those districts where the Covid-19 test positivity rate (TPR) is less than 2%, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced on Saturday.
It is mandatory for all parents and school employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19 for entry into the school premises, CM Bommai has said.
“We have decided to open schools for classes 9th to 12th in the districts where the positivity rate is less than 2%. Mandatory for all parents & school staff to be vaccinated for entry into the school premises,” Bommai added.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be meeting the Union Health Minister in Delhi and will increase vaccinations in the state. “We are trying to get up to 1 crore vaccines for the state. We have been asked to increase vaccinations in the border districts,” he added.
Bommai had earlier announced to resume physical classes from August 23, 2021, for students of Class 9 to 12.
The offline classes for colleges have resumed only for vaccinated students and college staff. School students would not have been vaccinated as they are under 18.
Vaccination and testing to increase in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Mysuru, Hassan, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and Bengaluru Rural. Villages that are up to 10 kilometres inside Kerala and Maharashtra borders need to have increased testing and vaccination since these are the villages that are experiencing a spike in cases.
Places like Bengaluru, Raichur, Kalaburagi, Ballari, Bidar, Koppal, Haveri, Vijayapura, Tumakuru and Chikkamagaluru also require increased testing to determine the positivity rate. Also, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Kalaburagi and Belagavi to have genome labs set up in the next three weeks to track new variants.
