FYJC online admission seats up by 9,670 in Mumbai Metropolitan Region this year

The increase in intake capacity for First Year Junior College (FYJC) online admission has enabled more options open for students in the city. The number of overall seats this year has increased to 3,01,760 which was last year perched at 2,92,090. This year has also seen the opening of 14 new junior colleges. 

Like every year, this year too, the Commerce stream has seen more seats available as compared to other streams.

The overall increase in intake capacity is largest in Commerce (4460) followed by Science (3760 seats) and Arts (1140 seats). This year the department plans to conduct online admission for Science (Bifocal-Vocational) courses along with quota admissions in the zero round. The Zero round is a tentative time frame that the education department fixes for FYJC students to take quota admissions.

Of the total intake capacity, 1,63,946 belongs to general category and 1,37,814 to in-house quota, minority and management quota seats this year. For Arts stream, if there are 20,326 seats in general category, then in all these quota there are 14,994 seats available. For Commerce stream, if there is 87,285 seats in general category, then in quota there are 78,045 seats and in Science general category there is 52,436 seats then in quota there are 42,334 seats. The minimum competency vocational courses (MCVC) seats in general category are 3899 whereas in quota are 2441 this year.

This year the total number of colleges in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has touched 800. Hence, the board is confident of admitting all students who will pass the tenth exams.

Rajendra Ahire, Deputy Director of School Education, said, "Since 14 more new junior colleges have been added in FYJC online admission process. The intake capacity has also increased this year which is sufficient for all the students who have appeared for their board exams this year."

This year the total number of colleges in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has touched 800. Hence, the board is confident of admitting all students who will pass the tenth exams.
