Delhi University is expected to resume offline classes in affiliated colleges soon, as per several media reports.
Several states have reopened the schools and colleges in their areas to resume offline classes for the students, nearly 1.5 years of them attending online classes due to the COVID pandemic. Delhi University is expected to take a similar decision for the students studying in all its affiliated colleges.
Delhi University has not yet announced a final date for the resumption of physical classes yet, but as per several media reports; the university will most likely reopen its affiliated colleges from next week, much to the relief of all the DU students who have been pushing the administration to open the university.
Amid the speculations regarding the reopening of Delhi University, Vice-Chancellor P C Joshi has confirmed that the varsity will reopen in a phased manner. He made no statements regarding the dates when the university would resume offline classes.
Yesterday, the DU administration confirmed that the university is not reopening on September 20, as opposed to a notice seemingly issued by the varsity stated. The administration said that the notice doing rounds on social media is fake and no official date for the reopening of the university has been issued yet.
DU Vice-Chancellor P C Joshi, while talking to the press, said, “Our students are located all over India and we do not want to create a panic situation for them. We will reopen in a phased and careful manner so that no student is put in danger or inconvenienced. We will be reopening after discussions and in a systematic manner.”
He further added that the university will reopen for some students in the first phase, and then the administration will observe the situation further. The government of Delhi has also given permission to schools, colleges, and coaching institutes to reopen for offline classes from September 1.
Students have been asking the DU administration to take a decision regarding the reopening of the varsity, as the online classes have not been accessible for all. Students have also staged several protests outside the university, urging the administration to allow students to reside in hostels and attend offline classes.
