Schools in Delhi are reopening from February 5 for classes 9 and 11. This will be the second phase of schools reopening in Delhi as the government had resumed schools for classes 10 and 12 from January 18.  Earlier, schools were reopened for class 10 and 12 to help prepare students for the upcoming CBSE board exams. Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia made the announcement to this effect.

Manish Sisodia has also announced that the government will resume classes at colleges offering degree and diploma courses. Sisodia said, "We will not call all the students at once. We will only call the students with prior permission of their parents." Sisodia said that resuming classes is aimed at helping students prepare better for their practical and internal assessments.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, had said that the government is hoping to reopen the schools in the national capital soon, as the COVID-19 vaccination programme has started in the country. He had also said that the Delhi government will soon start the admission for nursery classes in Delhi schools.

As quoted by news agency ANI, Arvind Kejriwal said that students are eager to go to schools but parents and the teachers in schools are worried due to the coronavirus situation and want a further downward shift in the COVID-19 trend in the national capital.

Usually, nursery admission in around 1,700 schools in Delhi begins in the last week of November. The Directorate of Education (DoE) releases guidelines and schools are asked to furnish required information, following which the application process is rolled out usually in December.

Guidelines to be followed

A consent form from the parents allowing their children to attend schools physically has been made mandatory.

Education institutes will have to follow COVID-19 protocols when they call students back.

They will have to ensure that students, teachers maintain social distancing inside campuses and wear face masks.

Schools and colleges will have to provide sanitizers for students.

When classes resume, attendance will not be mandatory, as per Delhi Education Department.

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia further said that the Delhi government will be soon releasing tentative dates for the exams and projects for classes 9 and 11.
