In view of an unprecedented surge in coronavirus cases in the national capital, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on Saturday announced that the PhD entrance test would be postponed.
As per a JMI notice, the tests were scheduled to be conducted on April 20, 22, 24, and April 26 and will now be held at a later date.
"The Competent Authority, keeping in view of COVID-19 surge in Delhi and weekend Curfew imposed by Government of NCT of Delhi, has postponed the Ph.D. Entrance Tests which were earlier announced to be held on 20, 22, 24 and 26 of April 2021 till further orders," the notice said.
After the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) decision to cancel class 10 board exams and postpone class 12 board exams, the Jamia Milia Islamia university followed suit and on Wednesday (April 14) postponed the exams for classes 10 and 12 at JMI schools.
The national capital on Saturday (April 17) recorded 24,000 cases in the last 24 hours, highest single day spike since the pandemic started. On Friday (April 16), Delhi had reported around 19,400 COVID-19 cases.
While addressing a press conference, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday (April 17), raised a request with the Centre asking it to reserve at least 50% beds in the central govt-run hospitals in Delhi.
“We also request the centre to increase the supply of oxygen in Delhi. We are seeing some shortage in private hospitals. We have also asked officials to raid places that might be hoarding important drugs,” Kejriwal said.
