Protesting students said that they were shocked to see police in the campus on Monday morning claiming that they had come there for a routine investigation.

“A few police personal came to the campus and asked if we had vandalised anything. When we told them that we have only been protesting in a non-violent way and have not resorted to vandalism of any kind, they went away.  However, the sheer fact that the administration has to bring in cops to stifle student voices is shameful and utterly disgraceful,” said one of the protesting students.

Students said they would continue to protest until they get a satisfactory response from the administration.

While the institute did acknowledge that it had called the police, an official statement said that this was just a preventive action. “The administrative wing of the institute is presently inaccessible to any staff member hampering the management of the institute. A report was filed at the police station to inform the authorities on the matter and to prevent loss of documents and damage to property,” said an official statement from the institute.
