WB UG Admissions 2021: Attention students! Today, August 27, is the last day to fill out the application forms for seeking admissions into West Bengal higher education institutes for undergraduate courses. Candidates will be able to submit their applications to their desired colleges by the end of the day today.

Earlier, the last date to submit the WB UG admission application form was on August 20, but the dates were extended by a week to make sure that all the candidates who received their Higher Secondary (Class 12) results this year have enough time to apply.

This year, the Class 12 results in West Bengal were released on July 22, but many students were not satisfied with their marks and hence, submitted their results for further review. These students were waiting for their final scores to be updated and so, were not able to apply by August 20.

The official statement issued by Calcutta University reads, “Considering various representations received requesting an extension of the last date of application, on the online portal for admission to UG courses (2021-22) and the interest of the students, the competent authority of the state government… has decided, to extend the last date of application up to 27th August.”

This year, the number of students who scored marks above 90 in West Bengal dropped drastically as compared to last year. The number of students who scored above the 90 percentile last year was over 30,000 while this year, it was slightly above 9,000.

Students must note that they will have to apply to colleges and universities in West Bengal on the basis of their scores in Class 12. Students will have to fill out the application forms online by visiting the official website of the university they want to apply to.

This year, a lot of universities and colleges have decided to conduct the admission process completely online, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A lot of institutes have also decided to conduct the admission process on a merit basis rather than conducting entrance examinations, in view of the second wave of the pandemic and the delay in Class 12 results.
